The Description
Students can name food and water as things nature provides. But what about decomposition, flood protection, pollination, habitat, or a place to recharge?
This ecosystem services lesson begins with the things students already recognize, then broadens the picture through a slideshow, visual notes, and a concept sort. Students investigate provisioning, regulating, supporting, and cultural services before pulling the relationships together in a one-pager.
What Students Will Do
List daily ways they rely on nature; explore four ecosystem service groups; sort real examples; revise initial thinking; make a four-part one-pager.
Why This Resource Is Different
The good discussions begin when students realize an ecosystem service can be something they never noticed before. Sorting examples gives them a reason to debate the categories rather than memorize four definitions. The final visual page makes that thinking visible.
