The Description
Geologic time can turn into a parade of era, period, and epoch names, with very little understanding of how to read the history behind them. This Geologic History CarouselingO game transforms New York Earth Science reference-table review into a classroom movement challenge.
Students travel among 24 clue cards about Earth's history, fossil evidence, major events, and time-scale divisions. Each clue leads to an answer on their bingo board—and a clue number they must record so the teacher can verify the response.
What Students Will Do
Interpret geologic-history clues about eras, periods, epochs, major Earth events, and life in the geologic record.
Consult the provided geologic time reference pages and identify relevant evidence.
Mark answers and record each clue's number on a bingo board.
Check answers with the teacher and correct errors before continuing.
Why This Resource Is Different
A student can point at the right geologic period on a chart without really knowing which evidence led them there. I like CarouselingO because it makes students return to the table repeatedly, for a purpose, and explain how they chose an answer.
Unlike whole-class bingo, the clue cards are spread around the room. Students work at different speeds, and the numbered squares make feedback more useful than simply calling 'bingo!' It's lively review without giving up the opportunity to notice shaky reasoning.
