    The Description

'Talk with your group.' Easy, right? Until one student does all the talking, two stare at the paper, and someone's entire contribution is 'yeah, same.'

How Do We Know That? uses curious Earth and space questions to introduce scientific thinking as something students can actually do. They wonder, share explanations, listen to classmates, and press for evidence with a science-talk toolkit supporting the process.

    What Students Will Do

Explore curious Earth and space questions; share initial ideas in a gallery or carousel; practice scientific discussion moves; reflect on changed thinking.

    Why This Resource Is Different

I don't want the first day of science to teach students that only the person who knows the right answer should speak. This activity makes uncertainty useful and gives students concrete ways to build an explanation together.

    • Three-page student packet with Science Talk Toolkit.

    • Teacher facilitation guide and discussion directions.
