The Description
Students may be able to point out the youngest ocean crust on a map.
Can they explain the pattern that produced it? This HS-ESS1-5 partner-card activity turns crust-age and plate-motion review into a conversation instead of another page of selected answers.
Choose from partner Quiz Quiz Switch Switch, Quiz & Cruise stations, and guided Carousel for crust-age and plate-motion review.
What Students Will Do
Compare age patterns in oceanic and continental crust
explain plate-motion evidence to partners
check responses and rotate cards
reuse the deck for Quiz & Cruise, Carousel, or solo practice.
Why This Resource Is Different
The youngest ocean crust is near the ridge. Great. Now explain why—and what happens to the crust as you move away. That's the difference between recognizing a colored map and using its pattern as evidence of moving plates.
I use these cards to keep that reasoning in circulation. Partners can ask and answer out loud, or students can work independently through the same crust-age questions in a station-style review.
