The Description
Earth's systems are easy to name. Tracing what happens when one system changes—and how the effect can loop back—is where the real thinking starts.
This HS-ESS2-2 review helps students make sense of feedback diagrams and coupled Earth systems before asking them to explain the same relationships in Regents-style evidence questions.
What Students Will Do
Revisit feedback-loop concepts and Earth-system interactions.
Interpret diagrams, readings, and visual evidence.
Answer scaffolded application questions, then work with released Regents clusters.
Use evidence to explain how a change in one system affects another.
Why This Resource Is Different
The spheres of Earth are easy to list. Feedback loops are trickier because an effect can turn around and influence the thing that started it. If a student's explanation stops after the first arrow, we've found the useful gap.
The smaller review steps let students trace cause, response, and feedback before facing unfamiliar Regents diagrams. That's more instructive than asking for the definition of 'biosphere' one more time.
