The Description
Human sustainability questions rarely stay neatly inside one Earth science topic. Students need to connect resources, natural hazards, changing climate patterns, and human decisions, then support explanations with evidence.
This student-and-teacher Regents practice set provides a focused sequence of content, vocabulary and application questions for discussing how human activities both depend on and change Earth’s systems.
What Students Will Do
Review human sustainability vocabulary, natural resources and Earth-system relationships.
Interpret evidence about groundwater, resource use, and environmental impacts.
Analyze a satellite-based land-subsidence example and connect the evidence to groundwater pumping.
Support responses to Regents-style questions with evidence from text, tables and models.
Why This Resource Is Different
Human sustainability is where separate Earth science units collide. Students may define groundwater or natural resources correctly but struggle to explain how a human decision changes the larger system. These clusters ask them to use evidence, including a land-subsidence example, to link an action with its consequences.
I want students to practice the reasoning the Regents actually demands: read the source, identify which relationship matters, and support a conclusion. Matched student and teacher versions make it possible to discuss the evidence before students try a parallel question independently.
