The Description
Ask students to write class rules and you'll get a predictable list. 'Be respectful.' 'Work together.' 'Don't interrupt.' Lovely—until the first group investigation.
Learning Is a Team Effort begins with recognizable classroom situations: one voice dominating, someone arriving unprepared, and group members missing needed information. Students work backward from the consequences to decide what real collaboration should look like.
What Students Will Do
Analyze scenarios involving dominating conversations, coming unprepared, and missing information.
Discuss consequences for classmates and the group's learning.
Develop classroom agreements that can be revisited later.
Why This Resource Is Different
I don't want an agreement that's beautiful on a poster and useless when lab groups disagree. Starting with situations students recognize gives them a reason to explain why a norm matters and what it would look like in action.
