Solar System Formation & Planet Density | Fluency Reading and Review

The Description

Why are the inner planets rocky while the outer planets can hold so much gas and ice? This solar-system reading makes students connect the conditions of the early protoplanetary disk to the different compositions and densities of planets.

The activity uses deliberate science-reading fluency routines—repeated oral reading, vocabulary analysis, and a check-in—so students build both the scientific explanation and the confidence to read complex Earth & Space Science text.

What Students Will Do

Why This Resource Is Different

Students can label the inner planets ‘rocky’ and the outer planets ‘gaseous’ without explaining why different materials ended up where they did.
